Action plan for development of Inland waterway shipping in Croatia
Action plan for development of the inland waterway shipping in Croatia is a project founded by the European Union, the end beneficiary being the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia. The aim of the project is to determine the measures and recommendations for the establishment of a stimulant and competitive inland waterway transport surrounding.
RGO Communications Ltd. takes part in the project implementation together with a Dutch partner, Panteia BV and an Austrian partner, via donau. Within the initial project phase, the administrative, managing and technical capacities of the existing Croatian shipping companies will be analysed and compared to similar shipping companies in the Netherlands and Austria. In the framework of the project, the fleet of the currently active Croatian shipping companies, as well as current and future port capacities will be analysed. Current human resources and educational capacities in the IWT sector will also be analysed in order to define measures for attracting new workforce. Guidelines for the modernization of the fleet and the Croatian shipping companies will be defined within the project in order to meet the regulations for the inland waterway vessels according to EU Directive 2006/87/EC. The final project task is the preparation of the Action Plan for development of inland waterway shipping in Croatia.
Project start is foreseen for January 2014 and the foreseen duration is 10 months.
Lock Management System
RGO Communications Ltd., commissioned by via donau –
Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft mbH, is developing and implementing
the national Lock Management System (LMS) – an integrated IT solution for
managing and monitoring lock operations along the nine Austrian Danube locks.
The project covers all stages of software development – from
requirements specification and system concept, through user interface
prototyping, implementation, installation, testing and multi-year maintenance
and technical support.
LMS enables complete digital management of lock operations,
including vessel passage recording, automated lock cycle planning, real-time
lock chamber visualization, shift and incident management, as well as reporting
and data exchange with related river information systems (DoRIS, CEERIS, EuRIS,
EHDB).
The system integrates advanced functionalities such as
automatic lock scheduling, failure and notification management, user and access
administration, and data synchronization through internal and external APIs.
This project represents a significant milestone in the
digital transformation of inland waterway traffic management, enhancing safety,
interoperability, and operational efficiency within the European River
Information Services (RIS) framework.
